8 Solar PV Panel Clean

In October 2023, we carried out a solar PV clean for homeowners in Orpington.

The Process

The homeowners came to us in October 2023 after having their solar panels installed by another company a couple of years ago as they were in desperate need of a clean.

Dirty solar panels have the same affect shading does to the system, dropping the overall performance, leading to a lower wattage of energy being produced.

Our in-house maintenance team run this through with the homeowners to ensure they understood the importance of having clean solar panels, and once it was all booked in, we arranged scaffolding to be erected with our sister company – Aylesford Scaffolding – and our qualified solar panel specialist got to work cleaning the panels.

To complete the clean, we have special cleaning van’s which hold deionised water with a generator that pumps the water through a hose, out of a soft brush head ready to clean the panels.

When it comes to cleaning solar panels, we strongly advise against using normal soap to clean the panels, as this can leave residue that can result in shading. The reason we use deionised water is because it is a gentle cleaning solution, without leaving harmful residue on the solar panels, leaving a beautiful finish.

What are the benefits?

  • After having their solar panels cleaned, the system is now able to absorb more sunlight. This means the homeowners are now generating 30% more renewable energy then before.
  • Dirt on solar panels can create ‘Hot Spots’, which damage the cells, so by having their solar panels cleaned, the homeowners are avoiding this, helping to improve the lifespan of their system.
  • Clean solar panels will make it easier to inspect for damage when the yearly maintenance service comes around.
