Kent’s solar panel scheme
Households in Kent have been given the opportunity to save money and adopt a more sustainable lifestyle via the latest round of Solar Together Kent. The group-buying scheme is set to re-open on Monday 31 March 2025, offering homeowners high-quality solar panels at a discounted price. Retrofitted solar battery storage will also be available to those who have already invested in solar panel installation.
To date, the solar panel scheme has brought some 38,900 solar panels to households across Kent, helping to reduce the county’s carbon emissions by up to 87,100 tonnes over 25 years. That’s the equivalent of taking over 47,000 cars off the road. In Canterbury alone, 477 low carbon systems have been installed.
With energy prices set to rise again from April, the re-introduction of the scheme couldn’t have come at a better time. By investing in renewable energy, homeowners can protect themselves from further price fluctuations and even make a little extra money by selling their excess power back to the National Grid.
Register your interest
Registration for interest in the Solar Together scheme opened on 21 March and runs until June 2025. Registering is free and does not commit individuals to the scheme should they change their mind. They will be contacted with a recommendation for the best panels for their roof, as well as a cost and specification by summer 2025.
Upon acceptance of the recommendation, a £150 deposit must be made, after which details of installation will be confirmed. A professional will then carry out a technical survey and set a date for installation.
What is Solar Together?
Solar Together is a group buying scheme that enables households to benefit from high-quality solar panel installation at a discounted price. Installers are vetted and approved by the scheme, meaning participants can be assured of a high standard of service as well as safe, reliable solar panel fitting.
The approved installers, who must be MCS-certified, engage in a reverse auction, meaning the lowest bid wins. This then sets the price for all solar panel and battery systems. Registrants will receive information about the winning provider – as well as their personal recommendation, costs and savings – upon completion of the auction.
